Battle the Black Ice
Rob Thibault
While the West Coast may not receive as much snow as the Prairies, Central, or Eastern Canada, British Columbians often experience black ice. Black ice often appears in dark and glossy patches or deceptively blends in with its surroundings. Black ice occurs because of freezing rain or “the melting and re-freezing of snow, water, or ice on surfaces.” Night or early morning are prime times for black ice to form. Often considered the most dangerous kind of ice because of the difficulty of detection, it has been responsible for countless motor vehicle and pedestrian accidents.
Black ice is one of the reasons that TBO founder and CEO Rob Thibault believes strongly in the process of treating ice and melting snow piles quickly and correctly. TBO Snow & Ice Removal Management works hard to create additional traction for pedestrians and vehicle traffic by adding a specialty aggregate called "traction grit". If an area has been correctly salted before a snowfall – it will melt up to 1″ of fresh snow and eliminate the opportunity for the snow to become compact and slippery.
Requests for salting and brining support, particularly to combat the prevalence of black ice on the West Coast are among TBO Snow & Ice Management’s most requested services. We offer the option of both brine and salt to be administered via gas or hydraulic powered salters depending on the scope of the project in question.
With a perfect ComplyWorks safety rating, TBO Snow & Ice Management is here to battle the black ice on your behalf!
