Freeze Forecast

Rob Thibault

We’re barely out of shorts, the leaves are just starting to turn, and hot dog roasts are still happening on the regular. Winter seems nowhere in sight and we couldn’t be happier. Gosh, it’s hard to tell right now whether each day requires a t-shirt or a light jacket. I can almost hear you saying, “You can’t expect us to think of hats and scarves and scary things like snow yet Rob!”

Don’t panic! I’m not trying to rush the joy of Fall, but I am trying to get you to think about the seasons ahead. (Besides, Whistler has already had its first snow!) Without fail, the first snowfall seems to take everyone by surprise! This can result in a number of easily preventable slips or falls. Did you know that Canadians spend about $2.8 billion a year in health care costs related to treatment for fall-related injuries? The members of our communities who are most at risk? Seniors and children. Broken hips, concussions, and sprained ankles are just some of the injuries that are easily preventable by making a plan for clearing snow and proactively salting or brining for those slippery mornings!

This year, the Farmer’s Almanac predicts that BC’s winter “will be colder than normal, with above-normal precipitation and snowfall.” Global News has been proactively trying to spread the news since August, reporting that “‘The coldest periods will be in early and mid- to late December and mid- to late January, with the snowiest periods in early and mid-December and mid-January.”

Be prepared for winter's surprises, and let us help you have liability-free peace of mind.
